It would probably still work with RT if it were developed, there are certainly times when I have omni's I would rather not talk to each other (I would prefer my space stations not act as a relay), but it just isn't as necessary.

As I said, it's still abstracted in RemoteTech, in the real world you have communication frequencies so you can make even more detailed constellations, and I think that is what that mod aims to do. The reason that mod seems necessary is because in ComNet, everything is omnidirectional which means everything in range talks to everything in range. So you typically have satellites aimed at different bodies and thus, constellations. If you have a directional dish aimed at Duna, it's not likely to be able to communicate with Moho or Eve for very much of the time. Constellations are almost inherent, maybe not as much as the mod adds, but they are there. Combining antennas isn't entirely accurate either (though this is a thing IRL, called antenna arrays).įrom what I'm reading about Comnet Consteallations, I don't think the feature is as necessary with RemoteTech because of the directional antennas. What isn't realistic is having dish antennas behave as omnidirectional, having your antennas more powerful because you upgraded the ground station, and having "partial control" (seriously? What is this, analog computing? It's all or none, it either gets a actionable message or it doesn't.). Just to add, what I mean by little reality, of course it has antenna communications and signal occlusion, that is realistic. I am at an early stage in the Career mode and my core communications constellation is 3 satellites at 700km orbit with a Communotron 16 for inter-constellation relays and LKO service and a pair of Comms DTS-M1 on each craft aimed at Mun an Minmus respectively.

That makes the whole thing insanely confusing (at least for me who has a small amount professional experience working with real radio systems, I suppose results may vary).Īs for your mods, I have no experience with any of those so I can't really provide a good opinion either way there. I've dived into unmanned exploration with RemoteTech mod for added challenge. Yes, it works, but it is a completely made up rule set based on little reality. This means you'll fly just behind/ahead of the Mun, retaining the same distance to it. This is where ComNet fails, RemoteTech is an abstracted form of real communications while ComNet is fiction. Using the RemoteTech window tab 'List comsats', select 'Relay 1' and 'Relay 2' and set them to target your ship The target orbit for the Mun relay satellites is a Kerbin orbit at the same altitude as the Mun, with the very same speed. I hate to cry "realism" but a certain degree of realism can help with understanding of a concept. Not fun for me.I prefer RemoteTech because quite frankly, it makes sense so it's easy to understand.

Not interested in any sort of life support mods either. I guess what do I want? I want to build ships sandbox style and go to other planets, but I still want some sort of goal or progression/missions to do. But the problem is, I want to build functioning ships, and science utilities and/or comms dont make any sense to have in sandbox mode because there's no purpose for them. Sometimes I even hate science mode because I just want to build ships and use any parts/make up my own scenarios. Why cant career mode have missions to complete too? I also lose interest if I cant figure out what to do or if I don't have any sort of objective or mission to accomplish. It does this by requiring unmanned vessels have a connection to Kerbal Space Center ( KSC ) to be able to be controlled. I lose interest in these games pretty fast if I'm not having fun. RemoteTech is a modification for Squad's 'Kerbal Space Program' (KSP) which overhauls the unmanned space program. The problem is, career mode is the only mode that has contracts/ie. I just want to build cool ships, launch them and go to new places and build bases and stations. I played a lot before the modern Career mode came out.
